About Me

Hi! My name’s Avery, and I am a multiplatform sports journalist and communications student, with minors in Sports Production & Broadcasting and the Analytics & Business of Sports. 

Through my work with The Daily Texan and Sports Illustrated’s Longhorns on SI, I have covered a wide range of Longhorn sports, producing game stories, features, breaking news and other digital content. I have experience in writing, reporting, broadcasting and multimedia production, and I am passionate about sports storytelling and how analytics can shape and deepen those narratives!

I currently serve as a communications intern with Texas Athletics, where I assist sports information directors with developing content, creating athlete bios, formatting statistics and working with the media.

As I continue my career at UT, I hope to expand my sports media experience and develop into a versatile and proficient storyteller and communicator. I also hope to build meaningful and long-lasting relationships in the sports world that can aid in my development both as a person and storyteller!

Outside of sports, I serve as a Young Life leader at Cedar Park High School, where I get to invest in students and encourage them in their walk with Christ!

  • Support Texas Athletics communications staff with media relations, game-day operations and content production to promote a wide range of Texas sports.

  • Produce communications materials and assist with digital content and media coordination to provide accurate, timely information to media members and fans.

  • Collaborate with athletic communications professionals during live events and day-to-day operations to strengthen media coverage and storytelling across Texas Athletics programs.

Writer, Texas Longhorns on SI — Remote Jan 2026 - July 2026

  • Wrote daily stories for Sports Illustrated’s Texas Longhorns site, “Longhorns on SI," covering mostly baseball and football.

  • Produced game recaps, sidebars, breaking updates, and TV/radio information stories while utilizing CMS editing tools and SEO best practices.
